Story of Upamanyu

Upamanyu was the only child of a couple who had retired to the forest after having relinquished all earthly desires. The little boy Upamanyu used to play all the day in the forest while his father meditated. He ate forest fruits and slept on the lap of his loving mother.
One day while roaming in the forest, Upamanyu met a traveler who gave him some cow’s milk to drink.
Upamanyu narrated the incident to his mother and asked her to provide cow’s milk from next day.
His mother was unable to procure cow’s milk, and all her efforts to divert his attention did not succeed.
His vexed mother then told him that he would have to perform Tapas to Lord Shiva if wanted to get milk.
The boy then undertook severe penance to have darshan of Shiva.
Shiva soon appeared in the form of Indra and asked him what boon he wanted. But the boy did not want any boon from him as he was not Shiva. To this Indra told the boy that it would take several years for Shiva to give darshan and he should take boon from …

A natural ice Shivling gets formed in the holy cave of Amarnath and it attains its full form and height on the night of the Shravan Purnima (Full moon day in August). This wonder takes place at a narrow gorge in the Lidder valley in Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir – the cave Temple of Amarnath. Annually, more than 400,000 pilgrims from India and around the world visit the shrine during the Amarnath Yatra period in July and August. A Pair of pigeons were mating in the cave and they overheard the teachings and attained immortality. It is said that the two pigeons are ever present in the cave.

Located off the Sampige Road in Bangalore, KaduMalleswaraTemple is a Shiva Shrine on a hillock surrounded by trees. It is believed that Sage Gautama did penance here. Kadu means ‘forest’ and the simple temple is believed to have been built in the 17th century for the worship of the locals. The Shivling is without a pedestal and rises just off the ground. A small nandi can be seen in front of the lingam. The New Indian Express reports An elderly man who visits the temple often had a few more legends. The story is set in 17th century when a betel leaf merchant rested near a stone on the top of a hillock. He kept another stone next to it and created a fire to boil rice. But the rice turned red with blood spilling out!
On seeing this, the merchant fell unconscious. Lord Shiva then appeared in front of him and explained that he was the stone (lingam) and that it was a holy place. On the lord’s direction, the merchant built a temple in the typical Dravidian style of that era. The historia…

Having a high ideal in life helps one develop initiative – Swami Parthasarathy

Having a high ideal in life helps one develop initiative.
You are trying to find peace in the external world. You are chasing something which you don’t know.
The mind has a natural tendency to step into past anxieties and future worries. Worry and anxiety only causes one to feel tired.
Your home should be the centre, not the boundary of your affection.
Give your personality a lift, you lift the whole world.
