What does Hanuman mean? – Meaning of the term Hanuman

Hanuman is pure devotion, humility and strength – He is the perfect being. But what does the term hanuman mean? It is believed that Hanuman got His name after being struck by the Vjara Ayudha (thunderbolt) of Indra on his jaw while attempting to snatch the Sun. Thus Hanuman means ‘one with a broken cheek.’
Some scholars and saints are also of the opinion that Hanuman means manifested existence of Supreme Consciousness that permeates in all.

Ha means ‘Supreme Spirit.’ It is also another name of Lord Shiva. Nu means ‘that which permeates’ Man means ‘manifested’

Some scholars have opinioned that this meaning is a bit farfetched.

But it is sure that the term Hanuman had its origin in the incident involving Indira and the thunderbolt. Because in Sanskrit ‘Hanu’ or ‘Han’ means ‘Jaw’ or ‘Cheek.’ It is believed that the thunderbolt used by Indra to stop Hanuman from touching the Sun hit Hanuman’s cheek and he got the name after this incident – ‘one with a broken cheek.’

Get Hold Of The Imperishable As All That You Hold By Name Will Go Away - Sant Kabir Teachings

There is a sound that is made when a sword is being cleaned, and when it is clean – meaning when the impurities are gone – there is no more sound. In this same way, clean the impurities of the mind and make the consciousness like a mirror.

Both the greedy guru and the lust/desire filled disciple are trying to strike a profitable bargain with each other. This type of guru and disciple both are on a boat made of stone and will drown in it.
Do not wait to leave the company of a false guru. If you do not leave at the earliest you will not find the door to the Omkar Sound, and you will fall in the net of delusion and remain in the world-ocean.
Everything visible that you see – all of that is subject to destruction. Whatever you hold by name, that will go away. So get hold of the imperishable.

No Liberation for anyone without the realization of one’s identity with the Atman – Vivekachudamani

What greater fool is there than the man who having obtained a rare human body neglects to achieve the real end of this life, which is liberation or Moksha.
Let people quote scriptures and perform sacrifice to the gods, let them perform rituals and worship the deities, there is no Liberation for anyone without the realization of one’s identity with the Atman, no, not even in the lifetime of a hundred Brahma’s put together.
Let the wise and erudite man, having commenced the practice of the realization of the Atman, give up all works performed with a view to gaining more sense enjoyment and try to cut loose the bonds of birth and death.
Work is for the purification of the mind, not for the perception of the reality. The realization of Truth is brought about by discrimination and not in the least by ten million of acts. Vivekachudamani
