Father of Dhritarashtra in the Mahabharata – Is it King Vichitravirya or Sage Vyasa. Dhritarashtra was born to Ambika wife of King Vichitravirya. But the king had died before Queen Ambika had conceived. To continue the Kuru Dyanasty, Queen Satyavati, mother of King Vichitravirya, had asked Ambika to have sexual union with Sage Vyasa. The Sage was the first son of Queen Satyavati. But as per practice of the time, King Vichitravirya is known as father of Dhritarashtra.

Amrita Lakshmi Vratam – Amritalakshmi Vrata

Amrita Lakshmi Vratam is annually observed in Ashada Month. The vrata is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity. Amrita Lakshmi Vratam 2024 date is July 7. This Vrata is observed for attaining peace and prosperity. The fast on the day is from sunrise to sunset. A single meal is taken on the day. Important prayers dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi are chanted on the day. Performing various types of Danam like food donation, cloth donation etc are considered highly meritorious. Amrita Lakshmi Vrata is observed on Ashada Shukla Paksha Dwitiya Tithi or the second day during the waxing phase of moon in Ashada month.

Ancient Sculptures Unearthed – Part of Churning of Ocean Episode at Banteay Chhmar temple in Cambodia

Three enormous statue heads were unearthed during the restoration work at the Banteay Chhmar Temple in Cambodia . The heads were part of a causeway depicting the famous Samudra Manthan or Churning of ocean mentioned in the Hindu Puranas.  Phnomepenhpost reports  The heads were part of a causeway depicting an ancient Hindu legend in which gods (devas) and demons (asuras) worked together to churn the ocean and release Amrita, the nectar of immortal life. “Three [heads] were found. Two are intact, but one was broken in the head and mouth,” aid preservation official Mao Sy, adding that the statues came from the end of the 12th-century reign of Jayavarman VII.  Sy estimated the statues’ heads fell off their bodies several decades ago and were buried by layers of earth brought in by floods.  The heads were part of a causeway depicting the stirring of the Ocean of Milk, an ancient Hindu fable under which gods and demons worked together to churn the seas by wrapping a serpent
