Thekkumkara Srikumareswara Temple is located at Konnathukunnu and is around 9 km from Kodungallur in Thrissur District in Kerala. The annual pooyam ritual organized in the temple attracts hundreds of devotees. The shrine is dedicated to Subramanya or Muruga. Carrying Kavadi is the main ritual on the day. People carry various types of Kavadi to the temple in procession. Traditional temple music is part of the procession.
Caparisoned elephants, Kavadiyattam, display of colorful kavadis and fireworks are the highlight of the festival.
On the Pooyam day, people also pierce their body with small lance, or vel. This is done for getting desires fulfilled.
