Pozhikkara Devi Temple Festival – Paravur Pozhikkara Devi Temple Vishakam Festival

Pozhikkara Devi Temple is located near Paravur in Kollam District in Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga Bhagavathi and is around 5 km from Paravur. The annual temple festival is observed in Makaram month and lasts for ten days. The shrine is located very close to the Arabian Sea.


The most important day during the annual festival is the Vishakam Nakshatra in Makaram month. The temple is traditionally decorated with plantain, coconut leaves, flowers, leaves, traditional lamps and lights for the festival. The annual festival is noted for various rituals and begins with kodiyettam and concludes with arattu. Procession with characters from Hindu epics, melam, fireworks and sheevali are part of the festival. Traditional performing arts, music and dance are staged during the period. Hundreds of people arrive on the day to witness various rituals and festivities.

Kazhcha seeveli, Ayilyam ottu, Sree Bali and Sopana Sangeetham are part of the festival. The festival ends with Arattu.

Another important festival in the temple is the annual Navratri Puja.

The temple has a well maintained pond. The shrine is noted for its wooden sculptures. Apart from the Upa Devata shrines, the temple also has a chuttambalam and flagpost.
