Kavalappara Subrahmanyan Temple is located at Kavalappara and is around 6 km from Shoranur in Kerala. The annual pooyam ritual organized in the temple attracts hundreds of devotees. The shrine is dedicated to Subramanya or Muruga. Kavalappara Subrahmanyan Temple Thaipooyam festival 2017 date is February 10.
Special pujas and rituals are held throughout the day in the temple.
Carrying Kavadi is the main ritual on the day. People carry various types of Kavadi to the temple in procession. Traditional temple music is part of the procession.
Some people enter into trance and dance wildly during the procession.
On the Pooyam day, people also pierce their body with small lance, or vel. This is done for getting desires fulfilled.
Melam, various types of colorful Kavadi and fireworks are part of the festival.
