Narahari Parvatha Sadashiva Temple Dakshina Kannada in Karnataka

Narahari Parvatha Sadashiva Temple is located atop Narahari Hill in Dakshina Kannada District, Karnataka. Narahari Shiva Temple is about 28 km from Mangalore and is located near Melkar on Bangalore – Mangalore Highway. The shrine is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva and is atop the hill at an altitude of 1000 feet.



Legend has it Nara and Hari forms of Bhagavan Vishnu did penance on the hill. There are ponds on the hill in the shape of Shanka (Conch), Chakra (Wheel), Gada (Mace) and Padma (Lotus). These are important attributes of Vishnu.

One has to climb 333 steps to reach the shrine.

The most important days in the temple are Aadi Amavasya, Sona Amavasya, Shivratri, Nag panchami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Sathyanaraya Pooja held on the day of Brahmakalasha Pratishtashtabandha, and Mondays in the Kartik month.



Taking holy dip in the four ponds in the temple is considered highly meritorious. There is rush of devotees for holy dip on Mondays in Kartik Month.
