Karinjeshwara Temple Bantwal in Karnataka

Mahathobahara Shree Karinjeshwara Temple is located at Kavalamudoor Village, which is 2.5 km off Vagga Village on Bantwal – Dharmastal state highway. Situated atop a hill at an altitude of 1000 feet, Karinjeshwara Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva. The shrine dedicated Goddess Parvati, is located midway on the hill.



It is believed that Bhagvan Sri Ram and Lakshman visited the shrine when they were searching for Mata Sita. Pandavas too lived here during their exile period in the Mahabharata. Two water bodies believed to have created by Bhima and Arjuna can be found here. Gadateertha was created by Bhima using his mace or Gada. Varaha Tirtha sprung when Arjuna struck an arrow on the hill.

Temple dedicated to Goddess Parvati and Ganesha are located midway on the hill.



The most important ritual in the temple is observed on Bheemna Amavasya in Ashada month. Other important festivals in the temple are Ugadi, Vrishabha Sankramana, Simha Sankramana, Naga Panchami, Ganesha Chaturthi, Kadiru Uthsava, Navratri, Mahanavami, Vijayadasami, Deepavali, Karthika Pooja,  Laksha Deepothsava, Nemothsava for Kodamanitthaya Daiva and Subhramanya Sashti.
