Tukdoji Maharaj Punyatithi – Death Anniversary of Tukadoji Maharaj

Tukdoji Maharaj Punyatithi is the death anniversary of the great social reformer. Tukadoji Maharaj (1909 – 1968) worked for the betterment of millions of Indians in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Tukdoji Maharaj Punyatithi is observed on November 2 as per gregorian calendar. As per Hindu lunar calendar his Punyatithi is observed on October 21, 2024. His literary work, Gramgeeta, gives ideas about the developments needed in villages and how to implement them for a better future of the country. In 2024 it is his 55th death anniversary.


Tukdoji Maharaj worked tirelessly to bring about social and economic development in rural Maharashtra and this earned him the title Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj.

He actively participated in the independence movement and was also jailed by the British.

He initiated man social reform movements and struggled hard against blind faith, untouchability and superstition.

Apart from the Gramgeeta, Tukdoji Maharaj also wrote thousands of devotional poems in Marathi. He continues to inspire millions of men and women in rural India.

Tukdoji Maharaj Punyatithi is observed on Ashwin Krishna Paksha Panchami Tithi or the fifth day during the waning phase of moon as per traditional Hindu lunar calendar followed in Maharashtra.
