Tasgaon Rathotsav is held in Bhadrapad month. It is the chariot
festival associated with the famous Ganpati Temple here. Tasgaon is located in
Sangli District in Maharashtra. Tasgaon Rathotsav 2024 date is September 8.
The trunk of Ganesh murti worshipped here has its bend
towards right. Thus, this is a unique temple.
Thousands of people participate in the annual Rathotsav. The
procession starts in the afternoon for the immersion of a special prepared
Ganpati for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Ganpati is kept here only for one
and a half day.
The Ganesh is carried on a 30 feet wooden ratha or chariot.
It is specially decorated and is pulled to the nearby river. The tradition of pulling
chariot began in 1785.
Tasgaon Rathotsav is observed on Bhadrapad Shukla Paksha
Panchami tithi or the fifth day during the waxing phase of moon in Bhadrapad
month as per traditional Hindu lunar calendar followed in Maharashtra.
