Koovagam Temple – Information about Koothandavar Temple

Koovagam Temple, known as Koothandavar Thirukoil, is located in Vizhuppuram district of Tamil Nadu. The temple is dedicated to Aravaan or Iravan who is worshipped here as Koothandavar. The temple is famous for the Koovagam Transgender festival held during the full moon day in Chithirai Month (April – May).

The temple has numerous murtis (idols) of deities from the Hindu pantheon. The important murtis are that of Koothandavar, Mohini and Hanuman.

The Koovagam festival is observed for 18-days and it is known as Chitra Pournami Festival. Other important festival days are Aadi Amavasya and Thai Pongal.

The temple is open for darshan daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM. And from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
