Sant Chokhamela Punyatithi is annually observed in Vaishakh
month. It is the death anniversary of Sant Chokhamela who lived during the 14th

Sant Chokhamela was an ardent devotee of Lord Vitthal. He
wrote numerous abhangs in praise of Vithoba.
Sant Chokhamela found an apt teacher in Namdev.
Legend has it that Sant Chokhamela died when a wall
collapsed. His devotion to Vithoba was so great that bones of the dead Chokhamela
were still chanting Vitthal, Vitthal, apparently yearning to visit the Vitthal
temple. The bones were buried at the footsteps of the Vitthal temple.
The death anniversary is annually observed on Vaishakh Krishna Paksha Panchami tithi as per traditional Hindu lunar calendar followed in Maharashtra.
