Girikshit is one among the numerous names of Bhagvan Vishnu.
In fact, this name is found in the Rig Veda. Girikshit means mountain dwelling
or one who resides in the mountain. Some scholars are of the view that the name
is strange as Vishnu is normally associated with pastoral or water or society
and never with mountains.
But some scholars are of the view that it was a reference to
a future incarnation of Vishnu. Balaji or Srinivasa or Venkateswara – the deity
who blesses and offers relief in the dark age of Kali Yuga.
Vishnu appeared as Balaji or Srinivasa or Venkateswara in
the Tirumala Hills. He resides there surrounded by seven hills. In fact he is
one of the most popular deities in Hinduism in Kali Yuga.
Girishtha is also a name used to refer to
Bhagvan Vishnu.
