Jageshwar Temple – Shiva Temple at Jageshwar near Almora in Uttarakhand

Jageshwar Mandir is dedicated to Shiva and is located at Jageshwar near Almora in Uttarakhand. Jageshwar is a cluster of nearly 125 temples and is located around 36km northeast of Almora town. Some scholars are of the view that this is a Jyotirlinga Temple and it is the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga. Jageshwar Temple is surrounded by very old deodar trees. The temple is believed to have been constructed by the Chand rulers between 8 th and 16 th century. The main temple is dedicated to Jageshwar – locally known as Nagesh Daruka Bane, meaning Shiva resides where there is a jungle of Deodar. There is a popular belief that one can offer prayers to Deodar tree here which is equal to offering prayers to Shiva. The main Shivling in the temple complex is Swayambhu – of divine origin.
