Yanaka Narasimha Form of Vishnu

Yanaka Narasimha is a very rare form of the Narasimha Avatar of Vishnu. In this form the Narasimha murti sits on the shoulders of Garuda, the king of the birds and vehicle or Vahana of Vishnu. In some descriptions Yanaka Narasimha murti rests or upon Adisesha, the serpent king on whom Vishnu rests in the milky ocean.
This form has four arms and carries Shankah and Chakra in two arms. Over the head of the murti, Adisesha forms a canopy with his five heads. The body of the figure is covered with ornaments.
Apart from Yanaka Narasimha the other forms of Narasimha are:
Kevala Narasimha Girija Narasimha Yoga Narasimha Sthauna Narasimha Lakshmi Narasimha Yogananda Lakshmi Narasimha Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Prahaladanugraha Murti Narasimha and Cencheta Narasimha in Hari-Hara form
Sculptures and murtis of Yanaka Narasimha are very rare. It is believed that there is sculpture of it in Hampi in Karnataka in India.

Story of Narasimha Avatar

Narasimha Avatar is the Half-Man Half-Lion Incarnation of Sri Hari Vishnu. The story of Narasimha Avatar is associated with Vishnu’s incarnation as the boar or Varaha. To uphold dharma and save the Vedas, Varaha had killed the brother of demon Hiranyakashipu.
To avenge his brother’s death, Hiranyakashipu performed intense austerities and was able to please God Brahma. When Brahma appeared before him he asked for immortality. But Brahma said he could not grant him the boon of immortality.
So Hiranyakashipu played a trick on Brahma and asked a series of boons all of which indirectly tried to avoid death.
Hiranyakashipu demanded the following boons – He will not die in any type of residence or outside. He will not die during day or night. He will not die on earth or sky He will not be killed by any weapon He will not be killed by a human being or animal

Beauty spot or til on ear is considered as bad in Hinduism. But in some communities it is considered good. The position of beauty spot, locally known as til, has specific meaning to certain communities. It is also only given importance in certain regions.

Today, Tuesday, May 13, 2014, is observed as Narasimha Jayanti – also known as Narasimha Chaturdashi. Narasimha Avatar is the fourth incarnation of Hindu God Vishnu and is popularly known as ‘man-lion’ or ‘half man – half lion’ incarnation. The main aim of the Narasimha incarnation was to end the tyranny of Hiranyakashipu and restore the path of Dharma. Prahlada, the young son of Hiranyakashipu and an ardent devotee of Vishnu, paved the way for the removal of Adharma.
The avatar of Narasimha also proves that intense and self sacrificing devotion of devotees will be answered by the Supreme Truth.
It is observed on the Shukla Paksha Chaturadshi (14th day during the waxing phase of moon) in Vaishakh month.
