Nagdive in Maharashtra in Margashirsh Month

Nagdive is observed on Shukla Paksha Panchami, or the fifth day during waxing or light phase of moon, in Margashirsh month as per traditional Hindu calendar followed in Maharashtra. The ritual is mainly observed in Marathwada region in Maharashtra. Nagdive 2024 date is December 6.

In the ritual, people bring sweets of their choice and burn diya over it by putting a cotton wick soaked in ghee. The sweet and the diya are held below any clean iron metal vessel or instrument.

The diya deposits black substance on the iron metal vessel and that's used as kajal – eyeliner.

Another important ritual that is observed on Thursday in Margashirsh month in Maharashtra is the Margashirsh Lakshmi Puja.

A Nag Puja is also held on the day.
