Morya Gosavi Puniyatithi at Chinchwad in Maharashtra

Morya Gosavi was a great saint in the Ganapatya Sect – worship of Ganesha. His Punyatithi or death anniversary is annually observed in Margashirsh month. Morya Gosavi Punyatithi 2024 date is December 21. The day is of great significance at Chinchwad in Maharashtra.

Legend has it that Morya who was ardent devotee of Ganesha had darshan of Him. Lord Ganesh promised that He will appear in Chinchwad for Morya’s worship. A temple was built by Morya at Chinchwad where Ganesh appeared.

It is believed that Morya Gosavi took Sanjeevani Samadhi – burying himself in his tomb.

Hundreds of people arrive on the day at the Samadhi and Ganesh Temple at Chinchwad.

Morya Gosavi death anniversary is observed on the Margashirsha Krishna Paksha Sashti tithi or the sixth day during the waning phase of moon in Margashirsha month as per traditional Hindu lunar calendar followed in Maharashtra.
