Khandoba Yatra at Pal in Maharashtra – Khandoba Festival at Pali near Satara

Khandoba Yatra is annually organized in Paush month at Pal or Pali near Satara in Maharashtra. The yatra or festival celebrates the marriage of Khandoba (incarnation of Shiva) with Goddess Mhalsa. Khandoba Yatra 2025 date is January 11.

The marriage ceremony attracts thousands of devotees to Pali. The murti of Khandoba and Goddess Mhalsa are carried from the temple to a common area for the ceremony. The procession is led by a person sitting atop an elephant belonging to an important family in the region.


The procession starts from a Wada (Old Marathi building) and goes to the Khandoba Temple. Here the procession receives the murtis of Khandoba and Goddess Mhalsa.

Later the marriage is held at an appointed spot called Bahula.

Khandoba Yatra at Pal is annually observed on Paush Shukla Paksha Trayodashi Tithi or the thirteenth day during the waxing phase of moon in Paush month as per traditional Hindu calendar followed in Maharashtra.

Khandoba Temple at Pali is located around 33 km from Satara off the Pune -Bangalore National Highway.
