Khandoba Yatra is annually organized in Paush month at Pal or Pali near Satara in
Maharashtra. The yatra or
festival celebrates the marriage of Khandoba (incarnation of Shiva) with GoddessMhalsa. Khandoba Yatra 2017 date is January 10.
The marriage ceremony attracts thousands of devotees to Pali. The murti of Khandoba and Goddess Mhalsa are carried from the temple to a common area for the ceremony. The procession is led by a person sitting atop an elephant belonging to an important family in the region.
