Kaisika Dwadasi - Only Day When Ugra Srinivasa is Taken Out in Tirupati Balaji Temple

Kaisika Dwadasi is observed in the Kartik month and is of great significance in Vishnu temples in South India, especially Tirumala Tirupati Balaji Temple. Kaisika Dwadasi 2024 date is November 13.

The Kaisika Puranam, which is part of Varaha Purana, is read in certain Vishnu temples on the day in South India.

The festival is of great significance at the Tirupati Balaji Temple, the murti of he Ugra Srinivasa is brought out of the main sanctum sanctorum only on this day in a year. It is then taken out in a grand procession around the mada streets on a golden palanquin flanked by his consorts Bhudevi and Sridevi. The murti returns to the main sanctum sanctorum before sunrise.

Hundreds of devotees arrive at Tirumala to witness this once in a year darshan of Ugra Srinivasa – fierce form of Balaji.

Kaisika Dwadasi is observed on the Shukla Paksha Dwadasi or the 12th day during the waxing phase of moon in Kartik month as per traditional Hindu calendar.
