Story of Thirumazhisai Alwar

Thirumazhisai Alwar is one among the 12 Alwars. He is a manifestation of the Sudarshana Chakra of Bhagwan Shri Hari Vishnu. He was born to Bhargava Muni and Kanakangi. But the baby born did not have face or limbs. The parents left the body near a bamboo plantation. Bhagvan Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi blessed the child and he developed all limbs and became a human baby. Goddess Lakshmi then fed the baby.

When the divine couple left, the baby began to cry. A woodcutter found the baby and since he did not have a child he took the baby home and brought him up as his child.

Story of Thirumazhisai Alwar

The child never drank milk as it had taken the milk of Goddess Lakshmi.

But once, an old couple brought some milk for the boy. The boy took the milk and consumed it. The foster parents of the boy were happy and asked the old couple to bring milk daily.

The boy realized that the old couple were childless and were suffering a lot in old age. So once he offered the milk brought by them back as Prasad. Upon drinking the milk, the old couple became young and they soon had a child. The child was named Kanikannan and he became a student of Thirumazhisai Alwar.

Thirumalisai Alwar, when he was eight years old, left the home and educated himself. He was proficient in all vidyas. He visited many temples in the country and offered prayers. He met Peyalwar, one of the first three alwars. Then he travelled all over the sacred places with the first three Alwars. Finally he settled at Kanchi worshipping the Lord there.

Kanikanna also came there and was serving him. An aged lady, in spite of her health was doing service of Alwar. Alwar blessed her to turn young and healthy. The king of Kanchi Pallava Raya came to know about this wonder. He married that lady. Her beauty and youth were increasing day by day but king was growing old.

King called Kanikanna and ordered him to tell Thirumalisai Alwar to bless him also to turn young. Kanikanna rejected his word proposal. King ordered him to leave that place. Then, Alwar also decided to follow Kanikanna. Alwar requested the God (Yathokthakari Perumal) who was lying on Adishesha to come with them. God immediately folded Adishesha (as mat) and followed. The city was completely turned dark. King came running and begged them to return back. The Humble Alwar returned and asked God to spread his mat (Adishesha) and lie down. God in the hurry to oblige Alwar words lay in the reverse order. Even
today God lays in the reverse posture in that temple.

There are numerous such miracles dedicated to Thirumazhisai Alwar.
