Located on the banks of Yamuna near the Saraswati Ghat,
Mankameshwar temple is dedicated to Mahadev Shiva and he is known as Mankameshwar
Mahadeo. The place is of great importance as Bhagvan Sri Ram, Mata Sita and
Lakshman visited the temple when going to Chitrakoot during the exile period in
the Ramayana.
The Shivling is north facing and the Mankameshwar temple is
a small structure.
The main offering in the temple include milk, garland of
bilva leaves, garland of mandar, roses, marigold and bhang.
In the temple complex there is another Shivling dedicated to
Siddheshwar Mahadev.
There is a huge peepal tree which is also worshipped. One
can find murtis and trishul in base of the peepal tree.
A huge 10 feet Trishul is worshipped in the temple. People
believe that offering prayers to it helps in getting wish fulfilled.
There are also murtis of Hanuman and Reenmukteshwar Mahadev.
The most important day in the temple is Shivratri. During
Shravan month special abhishek is performed and Shiv Chalisa is chanted by 108
priests.
