Mahalakshmi Ashtami Vrat is observed in Ashwin month as per
traditional Hindu calendar followed in North India .
Mahalakshmi Ashtami Vrat 2024 date is September 24. It marks the end of the
16-day Mahalakshmi Vrat. The famous Mahalakshmi Ashtami Vrat Katha is read on
the day.
The Vrata is observed mainly by women but in some
communities men also observe the rules associated with the Vrata.
Non-vegetarian food is on the day. The popular belief is
that Goddess Lakshmi blesses devotees with wealth and prosperity during the
period.
Tying the sacred thread having sixteen knots after
traditional puja is an important ritual on the day.
A specifically prepared Kalash symbolizing Goddess Lakshmi
is worshipped on the Mahalakshmi Ashtami Vrat day.
