Story of Varaha Narasimha Swamy

Story of Varaha Narasimha Swamy is associated with the intense and unwavering devotion of Prahlad. Varaha and Narasimha are two incarnation of Srihari Vishnu. But in temples in Andhra Pradesh there are murtis with both the images of Varaha (Boar) and Narasimha (half man half lion). Vishnu had shown both the avatars in a single form to Prahlad.

Hiranyakasha who had seized the earth and carried it into another region was killed by the Varaha incarnation of Vishnu. Hiranyakasipu, brother of Hiranyakasha, wanted to take revenge on Vishnu. He banned all forms of worship dedicated to Vishnu.
But his son Prahlad was an ardent devotee of Vishnu. Hiranyakasipu tried all means to change the ways of Prahlad but he failed. Finally he decided to annihilate Prahlad.
He tried numerous means to kill Prahlad but each time Vishnu came to the rescue of the young boy.

Greatness of Visiting Ahobhilam and Listening to story of Narasimha

There is a belief that for getting from redemption one only needs to go to Ahobhilam – a sacred place associated with Narasimha incarnation of Vishnu. It is also said that listening to the story of Narasimha is greater than visiting sacred places and offering 1000 cows with horns tipped with gold.  The Hindu writes But listening to the story of Narasimha on a full moon day or a new moon day is superior to this. When Lord Srinivasa and Padmavathy marry in Tirupati, the Lord asks Brahma to worship Lord Narasimha at the Ahobilam shrine before the divine wedding. Ahobilam is considered superior to a 1,000 yuga sojourn in Varanasi.  Eighteen Puranas mention the Narasimha avatara. To be rid of one's sins, one goes to Prayag, Gaya and Kasi. But all this is not needed, if one goes to Ahobilam, abode of Lord Narasimha, said Kidambi Narayanan. A day in Ahobilam is equal to many years of visit to other places. Donating 1,000 cows, with gold tipped horns in Kurukshetra, is supposed to confer …

Prahlada on Bhakti the only way to Reach Narayana

Young Prahlada addressing Narasimha in the Bhagavad Purana

My Lord you are inaccessible to Brahma and Devas: to the rishis who sit in meditation for eons of time: to wise people whose words flow like water and who are very great and good men: all these are unable to have a glimpse of your form and yet, low born ausra as I am, how can I have been blessed by the sight of you? In your infinite love for me, you have shown yourself to me. I am the most fortunate of all beings.
They say twelve qualities are dear to you. Ashtanga Yoga is greater than the twelve qualities as they lead straight to you.
But you have shown me and the world that Bhakti, mere love of you is enough and, in fact, all these other things stand in the way of reaching you. Even the twelve qualities and Ashtanga Yoga are far inferior to Bhakti. I am sure of it.
The Lord, I know is pleased only with Bhakti.
When Bhakti is firm the first thing which goes is ego and with the ego will vanish all the qualities associated w…
