Story of MARA and Sage Valmiki – Chanting Name of Rama in Reverse

Valmiki in his earlier life was known as Ratnakara – a highway robber. It is said that he attained knowledge by repeating the name of Sri Rama in the reverse – MARA. The story narrates the glory of the name Rama.

Ratnakara used to loot the people who used to travel through the forest. Ratnakara once attacked the group of seven saints who had nothing to offer to the robber other than the name of Rama.
The seven sages told about the glory of the name Rama and the treasure it can unfold. The told him that the name is the key to the true treasure.
Ratnakara was completely immersed in practicing Adharma that he was unable to utter the word ‘Rama.’
The sages then as a solution asked him to repeat the name in the reverse order. Thus Ratnakara started chanting the name in reverse order: Mara
Mara…Mara…Mara soon became Rama… Rama…Rama.
In course of time Ratnakara became so fond of repeating the name that he became a pious saint.

Good Time on Monday as Per Astrology in Hindu Religion

There are certain general time on Monday that is considered good as per astrology in Hindu religion. This time is taken into account after looking into all the inauspicious time on Monday.

Good Time on Monday are: 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Please note that fixed good time on a day is not based on sunrise. It is the most auspicious period when there is no Rahukalam, Yamakandam and Gulikai. It must also be noted that Bhadra or Vishti is not considered in calculating the good time.

Sringeri Mutt Tamil Vijaya Panchangam 2013

Current year as per Tamil Calendar is Vijaya and the Sringeri Mutt has released the Tamil Vijaya Panchangam for April 2013 to April. The Panchangam is available for free online and can also be downloaded for free. Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham at Sringeri was first of the four important mutts established by Adi Shankaracharya. Here Adi Shankara invoked the Divinity of Knowledge, Goddess Sharada and consecrated an icon of the Goddess. Thus the Peetham He founded at Sringeri in South India for fostering the Vedas and the sacred tradition of Sanatana Dharma came to be known as the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham.

Today is Sri Ramnavami – April 19, 2013 – Ram Navami

Today – April 19, 2012 – is Sri Ramnavami, the birthday of Bhagavan Sri Ram, and it falls on the ninth day (Navami) of Waxing Phase of moon (Shukla Paksha) in the month of Chait or Chaitra (March – April) as per traditional Hindu calendar. Sri Ram, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is known as Maryada Purushottam and he incarnated to annihilate Ravana and fellow demons and restore dharma.
On the Ramnavami day, Hindus observe an upvaas or fast. A puja is performed in the afternoon as it is believed that Sri Ram was born at noon.
