Today – March 10, 2013 – is Shivratri - Night of Shiva - Mahashivratri

Today – March 10, 2013 – is observed as Shivratri. Mahashivratri is the night dedicated Shiva. The formless Supreme Truth – Shiva – took form and appeared on this night to remove Maya or illusion and lead devotees on the path of bliss. The path to bliss is to realize that all that is living and nonliving is nothing but the Supreme Truth. There is no second. 
Observances on the day include chanting of Shiva mantras, fasting and keeping vigil at night. Special pujas are performed at midnight. 
Shivratri fasting is from sunrise on March 10 to Sunrise on March 11. Pujas begin at the night of March 10 and continue to early morning hours of March 11.

Today’s Hindu Calendar – March 10, 2013 – Tithi, Vrat, Good Time, Nakshatra, Rashi and Festival

Tithi in Hindu Calendar on March 10, 2013 (Today) – Krishna Paksha Chaturdasi Tithi or the fourteenth day during the waning phase of moon in Hindu Calendar and Panchang in all places. It is Krishna Paksha Trayodasi Tithi or the thirteenth day during the waning phase of moon till 3:33 AM. Then onward it is Krishna Paksha Chaturdasi Tithi or the fourteenth day during the waning phase of moon.

Nakshatra – Dhanishta or Sravishta or Avittam Nakshatra till 12:26 PM on March 10. Then onward it is Shatabhisha or Sadayam or Chathayam Nakshatram.
Rashi or Moon Sign – Makar Rashi till 1:01 AM. Then onward it is Kumbha Rasi.
Festivals, Vrat and Auspicious days – Mahashivratri.
Magh Krishna Paksha Chaturdasi Tithi or the 14th day during dark phase of moon in the Magh month in calendars followed in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa.
Phalgun Krishna Paksha Chaturdasi Tithi or the fourteenth day during dark phase of moon in Phalgun month in calendars followed in Delhi, Rajasthan, Ut…
