Tomorrow – January 27, 2013 – is Thaipusam

Thaipusam, observed on – January 27, 2013 – is one of the biggest festivals dedicated to Hindu God Muruga. Thaipusam is mainly celebrated by the Hindu Tamil speaking community in India (especially in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh), Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka and in many other parts of the world were Tamilians have settled.
Goddess Parvati presented the ‘vel’ (lance) to Lord Muruga on the Thai Pusam day to defeat the demons. Like most Hindu festivals, Thaipusam too celebrates the victory of good over evil.
The most important event on the day is that of devotees carrying various types of Kavadi to the Murgan temples.
Muruga, son of Shiva, is known as Kartik in North and western parts of India.

On the day people carry Kavadi and Milk Pots to Muruga Temples. A unique feature of the festival is people piercing their body with lances of various size as penance and thanksgiving.

Morari Bapu Teachings

Whatever action is performed with compassion is truly karma; without compassion, it is all merely kriya.
The desire for the unattained and attachment with already attained possessions leads to bondage.
The amount of energy we utilise in looking after our physical body, the same amount is enough to realise God, no more.
Don't ever have expectations for happiness; if you receive it, then consider it as God's prasad, share it with others.
