Sachiya Mata is a powerful and fierce incarnation of Mother
Goddess Shakti. Goddess Sachiya Mata is believed to the name given to
Mahishasuramardini form of Durga by the Oswal Jaina Community in Rajasthan.
The original murti of Sachiya Devi depicts the Goddess
pressing down the demon Mahishasura on to the ground with her legs and the lion
(Vahana or vehicle of Goddess) pouncing on the demon.
Another image of Sachiya Devi is that of twelve-armed like
the Mahishasuramardini form of Durga.
It is stated that Ratnaprabha Suri, a Jaina teacher, was
against worshipping the ferocious deity. He performed intense austerities and
converted the ferocious form into pure form. The Goddess then came to be
referred as Satyaka and she came to be known as Sachiya Mata. This form is
mainly worshipped by Jains.
The most famous temple dedicated to Sachiya Mata is located
at Osian in Rajasthan.
