Book – Brahma Dreaming – Hindu Stories with Black and White Illustrations

Brahma Dreaming is narrating several Hindu stories with illustrations of scenes and deities.  The illustrations are in black and white. So, what is new about the book? For Hindus who are aware of these stories, the illustrations provide a fresh approach. To those who are not aware of Hindu stories, the stories and illustrations are a good introduction to the Hindu world.

To an average Hindu reader who is always used to seeing Mata Sita wearing a sari might find it hard to digest Sita in a European gown. Goddess Sati dressed like a Greek Goddess…forget the dresses and the drawing style… the illustrator has done a wonderful job in capturing the essence of the stories. The pictures narrate not just stories but more… Most stories and illustrations attempt to unravel the hidden symbolism.

Brahma Dreaming is written by John Jackson and is illustrated by Daniela Jaglenka Terrazzini.
About the book
Brahma Dreaming is a collection of mythological adaptations in three parts, each centring on one of the great gods within the Hindu trinity, or 'trimurti'. Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu correspond to the cosmic forces of Creation, Destruction and Preservation, and it is largely their adventures that drive the story forward. From the moment that Lord Brahma dreams the world into existence, Hindu mythology is filled with moments that are also an illustrator's dream – and my collaborator Daniela Jaglenka Terrazzini has really made the most of the opportunity.
