Kanakagiri Utsava – Temple Festival at Kanakagiri Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple


Kanakagiri Utsava is annual festival observed at the famous Kanakagiri Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple. The festival is famous for Rathotsava and Jatra of Kanakachalapati. The important festival is held during the Krishna Paksha or waning phase of moon in Phalgun month (February – March).

Rathotsava and Jatra is held during Phalgun Krishna Paksha (Bahula) Saptami – seventh day during the waning phase of moon in Phalgun month.

Garudotsava, which is held during Phalgun Krishna Paksha (Bahula) Panchami – fifth day during the waning phase of moon in Phalgun month, is another important festival.

The Rathotsava at the temple is unique as the Rath or the chariot that is pulled on the day is believed to one of the biggest in South India.
