Brahmotsavam Festival in Vaikasi Month at Varadaraja Temple in Kanchipuram

Brahmotsavam Festival held in the Tamil Vaikasi Month at the Varadaraja Temple in Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu attracts thousands of devotees. The most important dates during the 10-day festival are the Garuda Seva on the 3rd day and the Car Festival or Rathotsavam on the 7th day.


Garuda Seva celebrated on the third day of the Vaikasi Visakam festival attracts thousands of devotees.  On  the auspicious day Bhagavan Varadharaja  leaves  the  temple  on   Garuda Vahanam (Mount)  at  4:00 AM  in the  early morning returns to the temple at noon after giving darshan to devotees.

Garuda Seva is a popular ritual in Vishnu temples in South India. In it Vishnu rides atop Garuda, His Vehicle and gives darshan to devotees.

Car Festival or Rathotsavam on the 7th day held on the 7th day of the Brahmotsavam festival is the pulling of the cart of Varadharaja Perumal.
