Amareswara Temple at Raichur in Karnataka

Amareswara Temple, dedicated to Hindu God Shiva, is located at Gudagunte near Raichur in Karnataka. There are numerous legends regarding the appearance of Shiva was Amareswara – two important stories – one is that of Mahiravana (maternal uncle of Ravana) getting a Shivling from Shiva for his sister’s worship. But he places the Shivling at the present site of the temple and is unable to remove it. Another story has it that Shiva appeared as a young boy to help a devoted couple. After helping the couple, Shiva disappeared at the present site of the temple.

The most important festival at the Amareswara Temple is held during the Holi Purnima day.

The deity is the family deity of thousands of people in the region.

Amaragunda a holy tank is found near the temple.

Lingsugur is the nearest town to Amareswara Temple and is at a distance of about 18 Kms from the temple. Devara Bhoopura cross bus stand is located on Bidar-Srirangapatna (SH-19) highway at a distance of about 3.5 Kms from the temple.

Raichur, Hospet and Gulbarga Railway stations are nearest to the temple – nearly 100 kms from the temple.
