Ganpati Visarjan Puja is performed when
Ganesha returns after visiting our homes. Ganesh Visarjan is a simple puja and
it can be performed by the member of the house. The visarjan ritual begins with
the Uttarang puja. This involves five kind of offering to Ganesha – lighting of
oil lamps, flowers, incense, fragrance and food.
After the above offerings, all members of
the house perform the aarti and sprinkle raw rice on Ganesha murti.
The murti of Ganesha is then lifted from
its seat and carried to the front door of the house. Here the murti is turned to face the house and
placed on the floor.
A member of the house then offer a spoonful of curd to Ganesha. It is poured into
Ganesh's outstretched palm. This ritual is only performed in Maharashtra because Maharashtrians believe
that any guest who receives curd and rice is sure to visit again.
The family then goes around the Ganesha
murti after which it is led for immersion. While carrying the Ganesha murti away people chant Ganapati Bappa Morya.
Some
devotees perform another aarti at the spot of immersion. Most people skip this due to heavy rush.
