Vasanthotsavam 2024 at Tirupati Balaji Temple – Vasantotsav in Chaitra Month

Vasanthotsavam is an annual festival held in Chaitra month (March – April) at the famous Tirumala Tirupati Balaji Temple. Vasantotsava 2024 date is from April 21 to April 23. The festival is held from Chaitra Shukla Paksha Trayodashi to Chaitra Purnima as per traditional Hindu calendar and Panchangam followed by Tirupati Venkateswara Temple. The Vasanthotsavam was started in 1360 AD as per the temple records.

Vasantha means ‘spring’ and utsavam means ‘festival’. The festival is held at the Vaibhavotsava Mandapam.


Snapana Thirumanjanam Abhishekam (Holy bathing) is performed to the utsava murthy of Venkateshwara and his consorts on all the three days.

On the third day, abhishekam is performed to the murtis of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman along with Krishna and Rukmini.

Procession of the consecrated murtis are taken in a procession in the evening on all the three days.

The Tirupati Balaji Temple complex and it surroundings are well decorated with lights, flowers and other decorations. The entire area displays a glorious look.

Rituals on Pujas on Trayodashi – First day of Vasantotsava

On the first day, archana will be performed in the early morning. Later utsava murtis of Sri Malayappa Swamy along with Sridevi and Bhoodevi is placed on golden Tiruchi and will be taken in a procession through Tirumala streets to Vasantha Mandapam situated in the western direction to the  Tirumala Temple. Here, archana, abhishekam and decoration are done. Asthanam will be conducted in the evening and they are then take back to the sanctum sanctorum.

Rituals and Poojas on Chaturdashi – Second day of Vasanthotsavam

The second day falling on Chaturdashi, the utsava murthis of Sri Malayappa Swamy along with his consorts are seated on a silver Tiruchi and taken in procession through Tirumala streets to the Vasantha Mandapam. Poojas will be performed in a grand manner. Asthanam will be conducted in the evening and later the murtis are taken back to the sanctum sanctorum.

Rituals on Pujas on Purnima – Third and Final day of Vasantotsava

The third and final day on the full moon or purnima day, witnesses the unique procession of Lord Rama with Mata Sita, Lakshmana and Anjaneya in a Tiruchi. Lord Krishna with Rukmini and Satyabhama in another Tiruchi. Sri Malayappa Swamy, Goddess Sridevi and Bhudevi in another Tiruchi. All the deities taken in procession through Tirumala streets to the Vasantha Mandapam.
