Amavasya November 2012 date and time – Amavas or No moon day

Amavasya is the no moon day in a month in a traditional Hindu lunar calendar. In November 2012, Amavasya date is November 13. Time – Amavas begins at 6:13 AM on November 13, 2012 and ends at 4:01 AM on November 14, 2011. The Amavasya Vrat, Snan, dhan, Shradh and Tarpan are performed on  November 13. November 13, 2012 is observed as Diwali.

As per traditional North Indian calendar the November 13 Amavasya is of the Kartik month. In other regions it is the Ashwin Amavasya.

In Tamil Calendars it is the Aippassi Amavasya.

Amavasya is the darkest day in a traditional Hindu month and is considered both auspicious and inauspicious by different Hindu communities.

There are many Hindus who undertake a fast on Amavasi. Some devotees only take a single meal on the day.

Ashwin month ends in traditional calendars followed in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on November 13.

In Gujarati Calendars, November 13 marks the end of Vikram Samvant 2068. Gujarati New Year is observed the next day.

Hi, i have a doubt. My wife is pregnant and doctor as given the date as December 25, 2011. I dont fully believe in some beliefs. But since its my child who is going to get a birth newly i want to know some thing. my mother said december 23 and 24 is amavasaya and child should not get birth on that day. So i got a doubt and read some articles in net. All the articles say bad about child getting birth on amavasaya. What is the problem. What does that newly born child know. What happens to him/her? Can you please give a answer for this?

There is no problem with the child born on Amavasya. Nothing will happen. The child will be usual. Will have usual problems associated with children.

Your child is already born. Coming out of mother's womb is not the real birth.

As per Hindu tradition the child is already learning, listening etc. Remember the story of Abhimanyu who was listening to Krishna while in the womb of Subhadra.

So do not worry. All prayers for a healthy child.

we want to trevel by car on 13th November 2012 as usually we do every year by train. On this auspicious day first we do Laxmi Pooja in our Mumbai home and then go to Kota by train in the night and perform Goverdhan pooja on next day at our perental home.
This year depawali is on 13th November 2012 i.e. tuesday ( Dishasool towards north) and we could not arrange train ticket as of 13th November, hence want to travel by car. Can you please advise us whether we can travel by car and want to start from Mumbai home between 8.00 PM to 5.AM
