Narasimha Chaturdashi is believed to be the day when Hindu God Vishnu appeared in the form of Narasimha (half man – half lion) to save Prahlad from demon Hiranyakashipu and restore Dharma. Narasimha Chaturdashi 2024 date is May 21. Narasimha is the fourth of the ten avatars of Bhagavan Vishnu. The day is also popularly known as Narasimha Jayanti.
According to Puranas, Bhagavan Vishnu appeared as Narasimha on the Chaturdashi day or the 14th day during the waxing phase of moon (Shukla Paksha) in the month of Vaishakh (April – May).
Devotees fast on Narasimha Chaturdashi day and visit Vishnu temples. People also give alms on the day and perform Annadhanam (donate food to poor). It is believed that those people who observe Narasimha Chaturdashi Vrat will reach the ‘Vaikunta’ – abode of Vishnu.
