Chaitra Ashtami 2014 date – Chait 8



Chaitra Ashtami or Chait 8 is observed on the eighth day during the Chaitra Navratri and is one of the most auspicious days during the nine-day festival. Chaitra Ashtami 2014 date is April 7. The day is popularly known as Durga Ashtami. Chait 8 is observed on the Shukla Paksha Ashtami or the eighth day during the waxing phase of moon in Chaitra Month (March – April).

The day is also the most important day during Basanti Puja.

Fasting dedicated to Goddess Durga is observed on Chaitra Ashtami by a large number of Hindus, especially in North and Eastern parts of India.

Tarashtami, Mahashtami, Mahanisha Puja and Annapurna Parikrama are observed on the day.

In eastern parts of India, Chaitra Ashtami is observed as Ashokashtami. Annapurna Puja is also observed on the day.
