Yodhakaa, the music band, finds support and inspiration for their music in Sanskrit Slokas. The band comprises of Darbuka Siva, Subhiksha and Pradeep and they recently released their self-titled album, which has Sanskrit slokams set to modern tunes.
"When we started off, we tried giving Carnatic music, a different sound. We wanted something different, and didn't want to do fusion again. We were looking for the Yodhakaa sound. That's when Pradeep had the idea of using slokams."
"I was working on a devotional album, and I had a lot of material left over from that. So we used them for the songs and created our own music," says Pradeep, who sings as well as plays the sling guitar for Yodhakaa. The reason behind choosing slokams is simple. "We didn't do western, since it simply isn't where we come from. We thought of slokams, since they are very flexible and can be easily molded. It's something everyone can relate to," says Siva.
