Booking and Selection Process for the annual Kailash Manasarovar Yatra 2013 organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, has begun. The Kailash Manasarovar Yatra is open to all Indian citizens, above 18 years of age and not attained 70 years, who wish to proceed to Kailash Manasarovar in China for religious purposes. Applications are available now.
Last Date of Receiving Application is March 11, 2013.

The Yatra in 2013 is from June 9, 2013 to September 9, 2013.

Kailash Manasarovar Yatra in Hinduism
Kailash Manasarovar Yatra conducted by the Government of India includes visit to Mount Kailash – the abode of Lord Shiva – and Manasarovar Lake. According to Hindu scriptures, those who take a dip in the Manasarovar and complete the parikrama (circumambulate) around Mount Kailash are absolved of their sins and are liberated from the cycle of birth and death. They are ultimately united with Brahman (symbolically represented by Mount Kailash or Shiva).
The Selection Process for Yatra
The selection of Yatris will be done by Ministry of External Affairs of India through a computer-generated random gender-balanced selection process. Selected persons will be informed by speed post about their inclusion in a particular batch 3-4 weeks before their scheduled departure. Spouses will be automatically selected (provided this fact is clearly indicated in the relevant column of the application form) subject to clearing the medical test. Selected applicants will be required to confirm their participation in a particular batch by sending a non-refundable demand draft of Rs. 5,000/- in favor of KMVN to Ministry of External Affairs by a specific deadline.
Total Cost of the Yatra
Rs. 32,000/- (inclusive of Service Tax) to be paid to Kumaon
Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) out of which Rs 5,000/- is a non-refundable deposit
Rs. 3,100/- to be paid to Delhi Heart and Lung Institute to covercosts of
medical examination / tests at Delhi. Additional amount if further
medicals tests are needed. In case the applicant is required by the medical
authorities to undergo a Stress Echo Test, an additional Rs. 2,500/- would be
charged for that particular test from the yatri concerned.
US$ 800/- to be paid to the Chinese side.
Expenditure on adequate equipment, clothing, food stores,
porters, baggage, ponies and other items required for the Yatra.
The total cost will be more than Rupees 1,25,000/-

A High Risk Journey
Kailash Manasarovar Yatra Yatra is extremely arduous (more so than the Vaishnodevi / Amarnath routes), involves trekking at high altitudes up to 19,500 feet, under inhospitable conditions including extreme cold and rugged terrain and may prove hazardous for those who are not physically or medically fit. The Indian Mountaineering Foundation has recognized the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra as a trekking expedition. There is a considerable element of risk to life and property.

There should be no problem as you are physically fit. Usually medical problems during the yatra are those that are related to heart and blood pressure.

This is an enjoyable Yatra if u go via Nepal. Practically no trekking or walking is involved, if one takes the Nepal route. There are some very good professional tour operators in Kathmandu,take great care of the pilgrims who are taken in four-wheelers comfortably right upto the foot-hills of Mt Kailash, with improved facilities on the way through Chinese occupied Tibet and without any bureacratic hassels. Cost also works out to be the same.

Yes you should go ahead with the confirmation as it is a good opportunity. Especially if your taking money matters into account. This is cheap than private operators.

On the 18th August 1998 the worst landslide on the Indian Himalaya in recent years occurred at Malpa during the Kailash-Mansarova Yatra. Up to 380 (the figures vary) people were killed including a well-known dancer, Protima Bedi.

its only 200-225 Kms including kailash parikrama(45 Kms)depending on the rout.Maximum height around 19000 ft(dolma pass)second day of kailash parikrama.Yes off course the Yatra requires a strong physical and mental health but if you are disciplined and follow the instructions given by itbp personals there wont be any problem. And dont try to be a HERO (no extra daring) follow the simple rule DONT BE A GAMA IN THE LAND OF LAMA.

For this yatra you will have to fillup online form ( available on ministry of external affairs web-site) in Feb/March and then computer based draw will be held and you will be selected for a particular batch. After receiving on confirmation letter you will have to deposit Rs. 5000/- as confirmation fee.

My dad is very keen on participating in the KM yatra and he applied for the 1st time this year ,his application has been wait listed (no-11) in batch no-8. In the 4 th week of april we received a mail from Ministry Of External affairs asking us to send a DD for an amount of 5000. Just in case there are 11 cancellations from the selected pilgrims, my dad gets a place for himself. We did send the DD and , in the mail we received, it is clearly mentioned that the MEA wil get back to us in this 4 th week of may( this week ) with the confirmation of a place for my dad. We are positive about him participating in the journey, we are just waiting for the confirmation

@ Mani Shankar...Govt Tour registration begins in mid Jan and ends by March. The problem with this tour is that it is through draw lots. Thousands of people will be applying and only a few hundred people are selected and there are numerous selection and medical process.
It would better to try through Spiritual institutions or pvt party as the time period and other things are flexible.
@ Lakshmisai...Kailash Yatra is a very difficult trek. You will need to prove medical fitness to participate in the Government of India sponsored journey.
If you hold an Indian passport then you can take part in the journey.
Hi Kuashik, thanks for your response. I would like to know how risky and steep is the trekking? Also is the walking pace fast or slow? Can anyone please let me if there is a detailed video that I can watch.
I also would like to know any other women are planning to take part in the yatra next year, most likely in June 2012. I would like to communicate with them.

Mr.Mani Delhi I will advise you to go by Govt route as it is more enjoyable and you acclamatise well and enjoy the company
Lot of women take part in the Yatra. You can also ride on horse or donkey. Need not trek all the route.
Government of India yatra begins only by July end...and you need to get selected after the registration process. So you cannot fix a time like June 2012 etc

Kailash Manasarovar Yatra subsidy is provided by Government of India no separate state govt subsidies.

End of January it will opening, we can not participate as our convince time it decided by draw.

The name of the lake is 'Manas Sarovar' and not 'Man sarovar' As per Hinduism, this lake was first created in the mind of the Lord Brahma and then it was manifested on earth. Thats why name Manas (Mind) Sarovar (lake).
Almost all the netizens use the wrong name. I am trying to create the awareness by writing comments on most of the blogs.

Thank you very much for the msg. Regarding the Parikrama of Mt. Kailash, it is not possible by four wheeler, the parikram of mt kailash is 52 km but we can cover the distance of 14 km by jeep and remaining we have do by walking in three days. But there you can get pony to do the parikrama. the cost from Kathmandu to Kathmandu will be Inr. 68000 per person. i am 8 yrs old have diabetes but it is controlled by oral medicine. my wife 62 years old retired I.A.S officer have mild blood pressure for which she takes oral medicine it is under control . we take daily walk of 3 km approx 40 minutes.
can any advice us if we should take this kailash mansarover trip organized by govt of India. or what will be the best way for us.please tell us the cost for this trip for two of us.thanks\
