Nandini Navami is dedicated the holy cow Nandini mentioned in the Hindu Scriptures. Nandini Navami 2012 date is December 21. The popular belief is that Nandini was the first cow to appear on earth – she is the daughter of Kamadhenu who appeared during the churning of ocean.
Nandini Navmi is observed on the ninth of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon) in the month of Margashirhsa (November – December).
Nandini was given to Sage Vasishta by Kamadhenu. It is therefore believed that Nandini is the mother of all the cows on earth.
Special ‘Go Puja’ is held on the day.
