Chhath Puja is observed for four days in Kartik month (October – November) in Bihar, Jharkhand and other parts of India after Diwali and is dedicated to Surya, Kartikeaya and Chhathi Mayya. Chhath Puja 2014 dates are October 29 (Sandhya Argh – Chhat Dala Evening puja) and October 30 (Suryodaya Argh – Chhath Dala Morning puja). Nahai Khai is on October 27, 2014 and Kharna is on October 28, 2014.
The main rituals take place on the sixth and seventh day during the Shukla Paksha or waxing phase of moon. The important rituals include strict fasting and offerings to Surya Bhagvan (Sun God) on river bank or seashore.
