Pradosh Vrat in October 2016 – Shiva Pradosha Vrat Fasting in October 2016

Pradosh is a highly auspicious day dedicated to Lord Shiva, which occurs twice during the Hindu lunar month. Pradosh dates in October 2016 – October 13 and October 27. (October 28 in western parts of India) Also referred as Pradosha Vrata, it occurs during the two different phases of moon (waxing and waning) in a Hindu month. Prayers are offered to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati during the twilight period on the day.

Pradosh as the name indicates is a period just before sunset and after sunset. Loosely the Pradosh period is between 1.5 hours before sunset and 1 hour after sunset. Most devotees prefer to pray to Lord Shiva or remain in Shiva temples during the Pradosha period.

Devotees fasting on the Pradosh day, break their fasting after the evening prayers.
