Pradosh Vrat in October 2014 – Shiva Pradosha Vrat Fasting in October 2014

Pradosh is a highly auspicious day dedicated to Lord Shiva, which occurs twice during the Hindu lunar month. Pradosh dates in October 2014 – October 6 and October 21. Also referred as Pradosha Vrata, it occurs during the two different phases of moon (waxing and waning) in a Hindu month. Prayers are offered to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati during the twilight period on the day.

The Pradosh Vrat Falling on October 6, 2014 is on Monday, therefore it is known as Som Pradosh. Highly auspicious day to propitiate Shiva as Monday is dedicated to Shiva.

Pradosh as the name indicates is a period just before sunset and after sunset. Loosely the Pradosh period is between 1.5 hours before sunset and 1 hour after sunset. Most devotees prefer to pray to Lord Shiva or remain in Shiva temples during the Pradosha period.

Devotees fasting on the Pradosh day, break their fasting after the evening prayers.
