Kaal Sarpa Dosha is a bad planetary position in a person’s horoscope and is considered harmful by those people who believe in astrology. It is believed that those who have Kal Sarpa Yog in their horoscope will have to go through tough times throughout the life. Astrologers suggest that this dosha happens due to the bad positioning of Rahu. The best remedy suggested to get rid of this yog is to worship Hanuman and perform Nagdosh Nivaran Puja.
As a remedy for this dosha some people also release a pair of snakes into forest on the Nag Panchami day – fifth day of the shukla paksha or waxing phase of moon in Shravan month (July – August).
Another remedy suggested to get rid of Kal Sarpa Yog is feeding of ants and fishes.

How does one know if this affects them?
‘Kala Sarpa’ is not exactly bad position of Rahu per se, but all the other seven celestial bodies being placed only on one side of the Rahu-Ketu axis in a horoscope. Therefore there can be 12 different combinations with different effects on the native based on the ‘houses’ affected. The names are Ananta (Rahu in 1 - Ketu in 7), Gulika (2-8), Vasuki (3-9), Shanka (4-10), Padma (5-11), Maha Padma (6-12), Takshaka (7-1), Karkotaka (8-2), Shankachuta (9-3), Pataka (10-4), Vishadhara (11-5) and Sesha (12-6).
This ‘yoga’ is not always as horrible as it is feared to be. In most cases, there is a remedy. Depending on the type and other features of the horoscope, worshipping Lord Ganesha, Goddess Durga, Lord Shiva and/or Lord Hanuman through out is usually recommended. Wearing Naga yantra or Bhairon yantra on the body, observing fast on Nag-panchami day, etc are also to be followed in addition to the above as per the conditions in the horoscope. In South India, particularly Kerala, astrologers do not seem to give much attention to this yoga in their analysis. Unalloyed devotion is definitely useful in any case and should be practiced through out the native's life. Other remedies should be pursued only under the guidance of a knowledgeable person.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.
