Chovoth 2024 Date in Goa – Ganesh Chaturthi Festival in Goa

Chovoth festival is the name of the popular Ganesh Chaturthi festival in Goa. Chovoth 2024 date is September 7. It is observed on the fourth day of the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapad Month as per traditional Hindu lunar calendar. The Chovoth celebration last for more than a week and begins with the brining of clay Ganesh Murti home.

Ganesh is worshipped in homes and in public pandals during the period. People also organize community and neighborhood pujas.

During the entire week of celebrations special delicacies like modak, pattoli, and neuryo are made at homes and are shared with friends, relatives and neighbors. Another highlight of the period is the active participation of people in fugadi – a traditional rural dance.
During this period many Goans make it a point to visit their ancestral homes.

The Chovoth Puja comes to an end with Uttar Puja. After this the clay Ganesh idol is taken for visarjan or immersion in a water body.

Today, Chovoth has become huge a festival with Sarvajanik Ganapati Puja or public Ganesh Pandals.
