Jaya Parvati Vrat is a five-day Vrat observed by married women in the Hindu lunar month of Ashad or Ashara mainly in
Gujarat. Jayaparvati Vrat 2014 is from July 29 to August 3 morning. Jayaparvati Vrat Jagran 2015 date is August 2. The Vrata is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is performed for the well being of the family and for peace and prosperity.
Various Poojas dedicated to Shiva and Parvati like the Uma Maheshwar puja are performed during this period.
A partial fast is observed during the five-day Jaya Parvati Vrata. Salt is avoided in food by most married women. Wheat and certain vegetables are also avoided.
On the fifth day of the Vrat, an all night vigil or ‘jagran’ is kept by married women observing the Vrata. The Vrat is broken by eating food containing wheat and salt on the next day morning.
