Pradosh is an auspicious day dedicated to Lord Shiva and occurs twice in a Hindu month. In 2015 April, Pradosh dates are April 1 and April 16, 2015. The fasting is observed during the two phases of moon (waxing and waning). It is also referred as Pradosha Vrata.
Staunch Shiva devotees fast on the Pradosh day and they break their fasting after the evening prayers. Pradosh as the name indicates is a period just before sunset and after sunset. Loosely the Pradosh period is between 1.5 hours before sunset and 1 hour after sunset.
Most devotees prefer to pray to Lord Shiva or remain in Shiva temples during the
Pradosha period. If at home devotees chant any of the mantras dedicated to Lord Shiva or read the Shiva Purana.
