Durga Ashtami in April during Chaitra Navratri

Ashtami, or Asthami, is the eighth day during Navratri and is one of the most auspicious days during the nine-day Navaratri festival. Durga Ashtami 2017 date during Chaitra Navratri is April 4. Fasting dedicated to Goddess Durga is observed on the day by a large number of Hindus, especially in North and Eastern parts of India. In Eastern parts of India, the day is part of the annual Basanti Puja.

The famous Ashokashtami festival in Orissa takes place on the day mainly Orissa.

The day is also observed as Annapurna Puja.
