Dharmaraj Dasami – Worship of Yama

Dharmaraj Dasami is dedicated to Hindu God Yama, who is the god of death. Dharmaraj Dasami 2014 date is April 9. Yama is also known by the name of Dharmaraja. He is propitiated on the tenth day (Dasami) during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon) of Chaitra month as per traditional calendar followed in North India.

Special pujas and rituals are held for overcoming the fear of death on the day. As per Hindu tradition, Yama is believed to control death and it is he who performs the act of taking away the soul of a person.
