Phagwah 2010 – Holi Festival

Phagwah is one of the names used to describe the Holi Festival. Phagwah 2010 date is February 28 (Holika Dahan) and March 1 (Dhuleti – play with colors). The term Phagwah is today more popularly used by Hindus in Trinidad, Guyana and Suriname. Indo-Caribbean immigrants from Guyana and Trinidad also organize Phagwah Parade (March 7th, 2010) during the Holi festival period in New York (Richmond Hills, Queens).

The term Phagwah is derived from the Phalgun or Falguna month (February – March) – the last month in traditional North Indian and other regional calendars. Holi festival is observed on the full moon day in Phalgun month.
