Today January 22, 2010 is the Saptami or seventh day during the waxing phase of moon in Magh month. This Saptami is dedicated to Lord Surya, the sun god in Hinduism. The day is popularly observed as Rath Saptami and Surya Jayanati. Hindu God Surya riding seven horses is worshipped 
on the day. The popular belief is that earth’s inclination towards the sun is the steepest on the day. Special bathing rituals are observed in some regions today.
