Sree Panchami in 2011

Sree Panchami is an auspicious day on the fifth day during the waxing phase of moon (Shukla Paksha) in Magh month. Sree Panchami 2011 date is February 8. Another Shri Panchami is observed in Chaitra month and it is on April 8, 2011. The day is of great importance throughout India. Goddess Saraswati, the Hindu Goddess of Learning, and Goddess Lakshmi are worshipped on the day. Saraswati puja is performed andHindu Goddess Saraswati young children are initiated into the world of learning on the day.
Sree Panchami is of great significance in Andhra Pradesh, North and eastern parts of India. People offer prayers and pujas for prosperity and for gaining knowledge. An idol or image of Goddess Saraswati is dressed in yellow colored clothes and worshipped. Hindus also wear yellow garments on the day. Symbolically, yellow color suggests prosperity, love and knowledge.
The day is more popularly observed as Basant Panchami.
